The 7 year project is on Enhancing Water, Food and Energy Security in the Lower Zambezi, with the main aim being: Improving water management in the Lower Zambezi basin by enhancing knowledge on the water resources of its mostly ungauged tributaries (SDG6). The latest innovations in remote sensing and ground observations are used in improving the knowledge on hydrological processes and water use in this semi-arid tropical region, with the aim to improve the science-based management of the basin. The approach is bottom up, in that stakeholders actively participate and contribute to the success of the project and the anchoring of the outcomes in society, providing practical tools to manage the resources. If the research is well anchored and formulated jointly with the stakeholders, then it can become a powerful vehicle for a much larger research and capacity building programme of which the outcomes are likely to be implemented by the partners, and WaterNet as a capacity building organisation, will take the active role in this field.
Contributions from project members will be presented. Contributions from other researchers with similar research topics are invited to contribute as well.
